Invisible orthodontics

Invisible orthodontics is the most innovative treatment in the field of current orthodontics based on digital technology with optimal results. It consists of the use of series of transparent and removable aligners to align the teeth progressively and without the need for wires or brackets, that happens in case of traditional devices.

The invisible aligners move the teeth thanks to the application of precise forces to achieve a controlled movement of the teeth. Unlike traditional brackets, the invisible one not only control the degree of movement by aligner, but also the time of  this movement.

According to the treatment plan just movement of certain teeth is permitted for  each staged. This results in an efficient force application system that moves the teeth to the desired prescribed position.

As the invisible aligners can be removed at any time during the treatment, some of its advantages are:

  • You can eat whatever you want
  • Maintain good oral hygiene
  • Take them off for short periods of time for special occasions, such as weddings or important meetings
  • More comfort
  • Fewer visits to the clinic
  • Avoid urgencies due to the fall of brackets
  • Check your case in 3D, which lets you know from the beginning how your teeth will look at the end of treatment.

The total treatment period depends on the complexity of the case and, in general, it is comparable to the time required with traditional fixed appliances. Normally, the treatment lasts between 8 and 18 months approximately.

What does it consist of?

  • Orthodontic study: the orthodontist defines whether the patient is a candidate or not to take this type of treatment, since it does not solve all cases.
  • The information is scanned and sent to the USA for the manufacture and design of the aligners.
  • We present the case in 3D.
  • Start of treatment: placement of the first pair of aligners.
  • Periodic reviews: we review the evolution of the treatment and following pairs of aligners have to be given.
  • Refinement phase: in some cases, once the initial treatment is finished, it may be necessary to prolong the treatment with more aligners, without any additional cost.
  • Retention phase: once the treatment is finished, in order to maintain the achieved result, a retainer is placed to prevent the movement of the teeth to their original position.

The invisible orthodontic system is simple and very effective. Your certified orthodontist will do the necessary tests. He will take the mould of your lower and upper teeth and will perform a digital treatment in which you can check the type of evolution you will get, as well as the final result. Before you start with the invisible aligner, you can see the result of your perfect mouth on the computer.

Once approved, at Excellence Dental we will make the aligners that will be replaced every 10 days. The process is painless, hygienic and invisible. If you are more than 14 years old, you can enjoy this orthodontics with perfect result.

Excellence Dental is a certified centre of invisible orthodontics, and our specialists will evaluate your case and will advise you the best solution.

Invisalign

The invisible orthodontics INVISALIGN is an alternative to the orthodontics with brackets that consists of transparent molds that are replaced every several weeks so that the teeth are moving to their place. Frequently Asked Questions about Invisible orthodontics

Does the treatment hurt?

Most patients may experience some discomfort in their teeth a few days after starting each new phase. This is normal. In fact, it reflects that the Invisalign aligners are working and the teeth are moving towards their final position. The discomfort should gradually disappear within a few days of inserting each new aligner. If not, check it with your doctor.

Can Invisalign treatment affect my speech?

Like all the orthodontic treatments, the aligners can temporarily affect the speech, as well as cause some sensation of sliding on the lips on the aligners for a couple of days. However, once your tongue has become accustomed to the presence of aligners in your mouth, any minimal interference in speech should disappear.

What should I do if my Invisalign aligner does not fit my teeth very well?

Some discrepancies between the new aligner and your teeth may be normal, since the teeth need a certain time to adjust to the new position. In case of significant adjustment problems, please inform your doctor.

Are there any restrictions on the food I can eat?

In general no. In comparison with traditional orthodontics, you can usually eat and drink what you want because the aligner has to  be removed before. For that reason, in general there is no dietary restriction unless it is specifically indicated by the doctor.

Can I drink hot or cold liquids while wearing my Invisalign aligners?

We do not recommend drinking anything except cold water while wearing your aligners, to avoid the appearance of decay and spots and not to damage the aligner.

Can I chew gum while I wear my Invisalign aligners?

No, you can´t. The chewing gum sticks in the aligners. We always recommend removing them for meals and snacks.

Does smoking or chewing tobacco stain the aligners?

We do not recommend using tobacco products while you wear the aligners because of the possible discoloration risk of them.

Why do some of my aligners have bumps or ridges?

Depending on the specifications of the treatment, some of the movements will need “attachments” or “ridges” to help the aligner adhere to the tooth. These bumps and ridges is where the aligner adheres to "attaches" or grips that the doctor places on your teeth. The "attaches" are small pieces of composite that the doctor will fix to your teeth and that will allow the aligners to adhere to them. The ridges or ridges are small dentures in your aligners. The doctor will use one or more of these techniques to achieve the desired movement.

What happens if I lose or break an aligner?

In case if your aligner is lost or broken, you must inform your doctor immediately. The doctor probably will recommend you to start wearing just the previos aligner or immediately following the one that has been broken or lost. New set of aligners will be probably ordered to replace the lost or damaged ones, which should arrive in a few days.

What happens if I lose or break an attache?

In case of breakage or loss of an attache, you should immediately get in touch with your doctor.
